broken america

we
we are
we are broke
we are brok(en)
we are brok(en) america

shattered by status
into slivers of class
then gathered like chattel
into houses of glass

we
we are
we are broke
we are brok(en)
we are brok(en) america

splintered by hue
into separate milieus
yet only a few
are afforded the view

we
we are
we are broke
we are brok(en)
we are brok(en) america

dismembered by religion
into headless congregations
scared into believing
in invading other nations

we
we are
we are broke
we are brok(en)
we are brok(en) America

contusions disguised
in a coat of confusion
but it can’t conceal
our scars of delusion

we
we are
we are broke
we are brok(en)
we are brok(en) America

diversity turned into
reason to open
the wounds
of an america broken

Every time I read your poetry, I shake my head in wonder. I wish I could write half as well as you. If you aren't "discovered" at some point and published, it'll be a crime.
